The Otago Home Based Fall Prevention Program Includes:
 

​The Otago Fall Prevention program is designed to support participants over 12 months. It includes 7 home visits and additional phone support in between visits. 

​

1st Appointment Includes:

  • Initial Consultation, health screen, & Functional  Assessment (Assessing strength, balance, and walking ability)

  • Demonstrating a set of exercises that have been chosen for you and ensuring you can do them correctly and safely

  • A participant handbook with illustrations and descriptions of each of your exercises

  • An exercise calendar to track your daily and weekly progress 

​

Additional Visits at Weeks 2, 4, 8 and at Months 6, 9, & 12:

​

  • Checking progress and celebrating your improvements!

  • Prescribing and demonstrating new exercises as you become ready for each new level. 

​

Plus Regular Phone Support in Between Visits

​

Price of Complete Fall Prevention Program: $249 (or 2 Payments of $125 each)​​

Fall Proof Your Life: The Otago Exercise Program for Enhanced Stability

Do you or an older family member have an increased risk of falling due to declining strength and balance? I offer in-home Fall Risk Assessments and Fall Prevention Programs for seniors in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and surrounding communities that have been proven to greatly reduce the risk of falls and fall related injuries.

Did you know that falls are common in people aged 65 years and older and are the leading cause of injury in this age group?

They can have serious consequences, including trauma, pain, impaired function, loss of confidence in carrying out everyday activities, loss of independence and autonomy, and even death.

Falls are also the #1 cause of admission into the hospital and long-term care facilities.

Decreasing strength, flexibility, balance and reaction time due to aging are the biggest modifiable risk factors for falls.

The good news is that seniors, even people in their 90s, can improve their strength and balance to achieve stability, avoid falls, and function better and their daily lives.

What is the Otago Program?

The Otago Exercise Program is a scientifically-backed, home-based exercise program specifically designed to help older adults strengthen their muscles and enhance balance to prevent falls. Developed in New Zealand, this program is recognized globally for its effectiveness in not just reducing the risk of falls but also in promoting a more active and independent lifestyle for the elderly.

the Otago Exercise Program provides numerous health benefits, crucial for aging adults:

Who Can Benefit from the Otago Program?

​

Otago is most effect for older adults (usually 70-80+) who have fallen and who have moderate to severe decreased strength due to multiple risk factors such as arthritis, deconditioning, and inactivity. Participants should be living in the community and able to walk in their own home with or without a walking aid.

​

*People who are 50-70 years of age and who have only mild balance and strength deficits would get best results from another personal training program such as a 12 Week Transformation that will also include some balance, mobility, and strength training.​​
